Resettlement and Livelihood Restoration of Waste Pickers of Bishkek Landfill Site

Social Assessment, research and preparation of livelihood packages for the displaced waste pickers at the dumpsite. The project aims at creating improved employability in the formal or informal sector for those who will be displaced from improving the dumpsite to a sanitary landfill. The project will train these people in better jobs and also help municipality in framing laws that improves waste recovery and processing using the informal sector recyclers.

Description of the Project:

Skat provided technical guidance and carried out an assessment of the informal sector at the Bishkek dumpsite. We are supporting the Municipality of Bishkek in highlighting important issues of the informal sector, clarifying their role in the new arrangements and focus on how the Municipality can effectively use their skills in better recovery of waste for recycling and provide better work conditions and opportunities for improved income.
