Description of the Project:

Self-supply is one option to achieve access to water for all. The components of capacity development of local artisans and affordable financing mechanisms are two key elements in the concept of accelerating Self-supply. The Tanzanian NGO SHIPO has great experiences in introduction of technologies which are suitable for Self-supply and in providing capacity development for local masons. Additionally SHIPO has experiences and capacities to further develop the financing scheme using local cooperative banks (SACCO) and to introduce a certification system of trained artisans.

Skat bring in its know-how on accelerating Self-supply, technical support and follow up of the trainings provided, in the progress of the financing mechanisms and provides networking and linkages between SHIPO and other similar activities at international level.

Finally through the 10 trained artisans who attend the training annually approximately 3’000 people get access to safe water.
