Description of the Project:

Investigation and assessment of the management, handling and recycling practices of electronic waste in South Africa, focusing on both the formal and informal sectors. Field studies performed and workshops held in Johannesburg / Pretoria and in Cape Town. Part of a global project on e-waste supported by the Swiss Government.

  • Identification and liaison with local partners to prepare mission
  • Mission to Johannesburg and Capetown to collect information and visit relevant sites (dumpsites, recyclers, landfills, electronic goods industries)
  • Conduction of workshops in Johannesburg and Care Town to raise awareness, collect and exchange information and lay the basis for continued work on the subject
