Only one third of the population of Afghanistan has access to electricity; hence, The Afghanistan Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW), aims to meet the energy demands across the country by supporting and encouraging the use of Renewable Energy (RE). The GIZ Program’s Output 4 is mainly addressing climate change as well as boosting the productive use of renewable energy in Afghanistan through sustainable energy and ecosystem management. GIZ-ESIP develops technical concepts for fostering the production levels of SMEs as a result of renewable energy implementation in rural municipalities.
Objective: Roll out an evaluation method to increase income generation in SMEs that guarantee cost-covering operation of renewable energy systems (e.g. existing micro hydropower, PV/hybrid standalone systems) in rural municipalities. A consortium of international specialists act as external data evaluators, quality assurers and technical solution advisers on data collected from the GIZ RE Survey conducted in the Afghanistan Provinces of Badakhshan, Takhar and Bamyan.
Services provided by Skat: Reviewing the survey and evaluating its data in synchrony with intec. Skat’s assigned focus is micro-hydropower (MHP) and project coordination and its objective is to create fact sheets for each district and MHP site surveyed.
