Hilti Foundation supports affordable housing through a range of projects in Southeast Asia and Latin America aimed at improving the quality and sustainability of housing construction through new technologies and skills development. SKAT supported Hilti Foundation in a review of its Affordable Housing and Technology program to identify opportunities for targeted support for sustainable construction globally.
Review of Hilti Foundation’s Affordable Housing and Technology program focused on longstanding efforts in the Philippines developing and promoting new building systems utilising bamboo for housing construction. The review considered bottlenecks and opportunities for further expansion of bamboo housing construction in the Philippines and other countries. The review also identified opportunities to capitalise on Hilti Foundation’s experience with bamboo construction – including experience successfully navigating market barriers, housing finance, and regulatory constraints – in development and promotion of other sustainable building systems supporting hosuing affordability in new markets.
