How to reduce building sector emissions in China?

Through combined expertise, we strive to make an impact on the world’s largest building sector.

Since 2021, SKAT, together with Intep – Integrale Planung GmbH, has supported the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in China’s building sector through the Zero Emissions Building (ZEB) project. ZEB China has contributed to the development of new national zero emissions building standards and has mobilised Swiss expertise from industry and academia to support the delivery of eight ZEB‑certified demonstration projects across different climatic regions in China. The initiative is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Working with Swiss and Chinese experts, the project has disseminated ZEB standards and solutions through studies, publications, training activities, and events engaging Chinese authorities, professionals, educators, and students. In 2025, efforts focused primarily on consolidating and communicating the project’s wide range of demonstration and capacity building outputs, with the aim of embedding knowledge on zero emissions building solutions within China’s building sector and supporting the achievement of national emissions reduction targets.
