The team of our PROECCO-project in the Great Lakes Region, Africa, was able to participate in the Second Session of the UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya. It was a valuable opportunity to share our vision of affordable and inclusive urban housing solutions with decision-makers and experts from around the world.

During the event, our team unveiled the ‘Swiss Cube’—an affordable and modular housing unit, built in just six weeks within the United Nations compound. This model building inaugurated by the UN-HABITAT Executive Director Maimunah Sharif, not only showcases the immense potential of the local construction industry to provide high-quality, affordable housing solutions, but also stands as a low-carbon housing solution designed by Skat Consulting Ltd. It is part of a programme of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, co-designed and implemented by us, and aimed at promoting sustainable urban development in the world’s fastest-growing cities in the Great Lakes region.

The Swiss Cube serves as a catalyst for urban development, transforming unplanned settlements into urban housing, while preserving the sense of community. Together, we can make a significant impact on cities and improve living conditions for all.
