The Evaluation of CRRP programme was carried out according to OECD/DAC standards. The objective was to understand the extent in which the programme contributed in establishing resilient communities after the impact of the Tsunami in Sri Lanka.

The Code of Practice for Cost Effective Boreholes provides a framework with which to raise the level of professionalism within the water well drilling sector worldwide. This project is part of the third phase of the Rural Water Supply Network (RWSN) Cost Effective Boreholes work – to support uptake of the Code of Practice.
Helvetas, the Swiss Red Cross and Swiss Solidarity took the initiative to reconstruct permanent houses in Thiraimadu, Batticaloa. Skat provided professional support in its design and planning, including training and capacity building.
The project concentrated on the construction of 130 houses including basic infrastructure and community facilities in the fisher village of Panichankerni in the Vaharai area on the East Coast of Sri Lanka. The village is situated 60 km north of Batticaloa town and – until 2006 – at the border of the LTTE and government controlled area.
