Description of the Project:
UNICEF Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) commissioned Skat to undertake a Training Workshop on Emergency Performance Monitoring in Kitgum, Uganda. The training was part of ESARO’s strategy to better implement Performance Monitoring and Evaluation in all UNICEF initiatives in eastern and southern Africa. The key objective of the workshop was to improve M&E skills and capacities of country staff and partners, especially when concerning emergency situations.
The workshop took place in Kitgum, Uganda from 17th to 19th June, 2007. An average of 35 participants representing local governments, NGOs and UN agencies working in Uganda were trained. The training methods were interactive and dynamic, giving participants the opportunity to not only learn new M&E approaches, but also to draw from lessons learned based on their experience. The workshop was highly participatory including working groups and presentations/discussions during plenary sessions. Skat prepared the training material in a clear and trainee friendly way, in coordination with UNICEF/ESARO staff. Participants regarded the training as useful in terms of learning more about the UNICEF Core Commitments for Children, understanding better Performance Monitoring and Evaluation in Emergency Situations, learning more about indicator development and sharing PM&E experiences with other staff and partners. The lead facilitator (Skat) formulated recommendations after the performance of the assignment.
