The Sustainable Reconstruction Demonstration Project in Ukraine aims to identify and prepare a pilot renovation of a conflict-damaged public building, focusing on energy and material efficiency. This initiative responds to the urgent need for reconstruction while aligning with broader environmental and development goals of Ukraine. As part of SDC’s 2025–2028 Ukraine programme, the project embraces a “build back better” approach, supporting both humanitarian relief and sustainable development. During the preparatory phase (Phase I), Skat together with HEKS/EPER assessed and shortlisted suitable buildings based on predefined criteria, conducted architectural assessments, and developed a preliminary scope of work and cost estimates. The project also evaluated supply chains for reused construction materials. A key outcome is the selection of one building for a detailed Phase II proposal. Skat’s role included project management and technical coordination, with the broader goal of promoting the replication of sustainable reconstruction practices in Ukraine.

The Service de l’Eau of the city of Lausanne, Switzerland, is in a public-public development partnership with the Communauté Urbaine de Nouakchott (CUN), Mauritania, for the implementation of the Projet Communautaire d’Accès à l’Eau et l’Assainissement (PCAEA) in the Riyadh municipality of the town. The PCAEA aims at an extension of the town’s water network by the 18 km, the construction of standpipes, the connection of 16 schools to the network, the creation of subsidized private connections, awareness rising on hygiene and sanitation, as well as the construction of public sanitation infrastructure in schools and health centres. In addition, Lausanne, through its water department, supports the CUN in an approach of quality and sustainability of the infrastructures already realized within the framework of the partnership. The budget of the Service de l’Eau to achieve its commitment comes from a cent levied per cubic meter of drinking water sold to the citizens of Lausanne and to those of 18 other Swiss municipalities rallied in the project, according to the principle defended by Solidarit'eau Suisse.

Madagascar’s New Energy Policy (adopted in Sept 2016) intends to increase the rural electrification rate from today < 5% to 75% in 2030 and this mainly through renewables (mainly hydro and PV). GIZ in the context of the “Electrification Project through Renewables PERER” supports local stakeholders (ministry, regulator, agency for rural electrification and private sector etc.) through Technical Assistance. Skat was mandated to analyse and revise feasibility and detailed design studies as well as hydrological studies for selected sites in Sava region.

This mandate provides technical expertise to support the Swiss constituency in the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Executive Council. The service ensures that key GEF projects and programs across all focal areas (climate, biodiversity, desertification, chemicals, international waters) are reviewed by additional specialists with international environmental project knowledge, enabling the Swiss delegation to contribute to high-quality GEF initiatives through informed assessments and positions.

The program "controlled landfills for household waste III" which is part of the National Program for Integrated and Sustainable Waste Management (PRONGIDD) aims at waste management through transfer stations, landfills and waste treatment facilities all over the country (new landfills, mechanical-biological pilot treatment plants). Due to lack of information and lack of integrating people’s interest, ANGED is confronted with massive demonstrations of citizens and blockages of construction sites.
